Happy Easter and happy spring! Even though the snow on Sunday put a little damper on the first day of spring, buds are still popping up through the frosty white and the birds haven’t stopped their morning songs. Spring is here despite the snow.

If the temperatures remain cool next week you’ll surely warm up at Old Steeple Community Church’s annual Soup Supper on Sunday, April 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $9 for children under 10. The menu includes a variety of soups, plus bread, beverages and dessert. Tickets can be purchased by calling Lenny at 631-722-3580. For more information, email Donna at dnj66@optimum.net.

On Saturday, April 2, from 7:30 to 9 p.m., Jamesport Meeting House will present a concert by world-acclaimed pianist Magdalena Baczewska. Born in Warsaw to a musical family, Ms. Baczewska’s performances have been hailed by The Washington Post as “eloquent and technologically flawless” and praised by the Polish Daily News for their “high musicianship and refined musical taste.” She will present a program of works by Johannes Brahms and by her fellow countryman Frédéric Chopin.Of special local note, Ms. Baczewska  will play a composition by Peter Susser, DMA, a lecturer in music at Columbia University who has a vacation home in Jamesport and serves as a member of the board of directors of the Jamesport Meeting House Preservation Trust. Tickets are $20 in advance and are available online at jamesportmeetinghouse.com or by calling 631-722-5170. Tickets at the door are $25. Students are free. A reception to meet with Ms. Baczewska and Mr. Susser will follow the concert.

Also coming up at the Jamesport Meeting House is a concert on Friday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. featuring Glenn Roth, a high-energy acoustic fingerstyle guitarist. Glenn will play some of his own music that he has performed around the world. Tickets at the door are $10 for adults. Students are free.

The Jamesport-South Jamesport Civic Association will meet on Saturday, April 2, at the Jamesport Meeting House. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. for bagels and coffee/tea, and the meeting will start promptly at 10.

This is a very busy week for my family as we sing for all the Holy Week services at Shrine of Our Lady of the Island in Eastport. If you’ve never been there to see the outdoor, life-size Stations of the Cross, I highly recommend it. On Good Friday and throughout Easter weekend the church hosts thousands of pilgrims from all over the New York area.
